The past few months have been busy for 46th Ward Democrats. Our ward hosted President Barack Obama for his 50th birthday celebration at the Aragon Ballroom in Uptown. Volunteers from our area travelled up to Wisconsin to help Democrats win two State Senate seats in historic recall elections. Preparations began for the 2012 elections – which will feature critical contests for the White House, Congress, the state legislature, the judiciary and county offices.

The 46th Ward’s Democratic Alderman James Cappleman also launched a number of initiatives to improve our neighborhood. Whether it is fighting crime through “positive loitering” events, helping local children through a new school supply drive, or working in collaboration with residents to create a ward master plan, Alderman Cappleman and his office have hit the ground running during his first months in office. 46th Ward Democrats are proud to have him as their Alderman.

As our 46th Ward Democrats team prepares to fight for progressive values in the next election, we need your help to pay for materials and campaign operations. We hope you will join us for our annual fundraiser on September 12th , and sample some of Uptown’s best Indian cuisine at Marigold Restaurant. Here are the details:

Thank you for visiting the 46th Ward Democrats website. The 46th Ward Democrats are proud to be a leading progressive voice in the City of Chicago. We hope you will visit our site often for updates on events and issues and to become more involved in your local government.

Over the past few years we have organized thousands of local Democrats to participate in campaign and community service activities.

We played a leading role in President Obama’s nomination by sending volunteers to key primary states including Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, South Carolina and Wisconsin. Our 46th ward office, working in conjunction with other northside wards, helped mobilize over 4,000 volunteers to travel to Iowa for the Obama campaign during the fall of 2008.

We celebrated President Obama’s inauguration in 2009 by recruiting hundreds of local volunteers to make meals for the homeless and donate canned goods to neighborhood charities. In August of 2011, President Obama celebrated his 50th birthday with an event in the 46th ward.

During the past 2010 campaign cycle we hosted prominent elected officials including Governor Pat Quinn and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky for discussions with ward voters on heath care and other key issues. We worked to bring the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, to the northside to educate Democratic volunteers about how they could participate in that year’s Congressional elections.

Our ward delivered 11,753 votes to help Governor Pat Quinn win a close victory in November 2010. 46th ward voters played a key role in Democratic victories at many levels of government. We strongly supported 46th Ward Alderman James Cappleman in his April 2011 victory.
